10-28-05 - New old interview
I found and posted a new interview with Alex, called Art Pop's Life of Leisure,
about the evolution of the band and the recording of Think Tank.
10-24-05 - Alex signs a book deal
The Independent and Publishing News
have both reported that Alex has signed a book deal to write his memoirs. He apparently signed through
Antonia Hodgson at Time Warner for a "significant sum" of money.
Some sites are still reporting that Alex will be on I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here!, but when asked
about it, he said no, reports Blur's fan club president.
Still working on the gallery. Sorry for the delay.
10-24-05 - Blur EP soon
Damon Albarn has said that Blur will release an EP by the end of the year. From xfm.co.uk:
Damon Albarn has been speaking to Xfm about his plans for a brand new "aggressively laid back" Blur EP to be released before the end of the year, plus the possibility of some low key live dates.
Following reports that the new Blur material will be more lo-fi and stripped down than their previous work, Albarn spoke to Xfm and explained that fans will probably be able to hear new material from the band pretty soon (if they can find it).
"I think we're gonna do an EP first, sometime by the end of this year," he confessed, "But you probably won't know about it. It'll just 'come out'. It'll be so, sort of, underplayed. It'll come out but you won't know it's us as it'll be so, well, not us."
"We've got the songs but we're gonna record them in a few hours and just be very laid back about it. But not musically laid back. It'll be aggressive. Aggressively laid back. It's the total opposite of Gorillaz.
"I can't really make another Blur record that's a big landscape sort of thing, due to my very basic guitar ability. Cos I want to sing and play so it has to be three chords. I can only do three chords and not look at the guitar."
Albarn also kyboshed the idea of getting a new guitarist to replace the long departed Graham Coxon saying, "What's the point? We'd never be able to get one as good as Graham."
He also admitted that Blur would be playing some live dates towards the end of the year, saying they'd, "Probably do a couple of pubs round Christmas. To be honest with you, it'll be nice."
10-08-05 - Alex on reality show?
Rumour has it that Alex is going to appear on the reality show I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here! Other
participants include a shamed Welsh MP, George Hamilton and Prince William's best friend. The series
airs in November and will be filmed in a jungle setting in Queensland, Australia. This hasn't
been confirmed, so I have no idea if it's true or not. It's kind of perplexing, but hey, it's more
info and pictures, at least. There is a news article on it
here that reads as follows:
There is a nasty rumour going round that Blur bassist Alex James has signed up to appear in the new series of 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'.
James was reportedly inspired by John 'Johnny Rotton' Lydon's stint on the reality TV show and he also fancies munching on some jungle bugs.
According to 6Music other celebs appearing on the show will be the orange George Hamilton, Ian Wright and Rodney Marsh.
The new series kicks off in November...can't wait.
10-08-50 - New Blur album
While promoting and recording in Hong Kong, as Gorillaz did a track called "Hong Kong" for a War Child
compilation, Damon Albarn told a radio station that Blur is working on a new album. From Gigwise:
Damon Albarn has been speaking about Blur's new album, saying that he's had to focus more on his guitar work with Graham Coxon still out of the picture.
Coxon is focusing on his solo work, while Blur are busy working on the follow up to 'Think Tank' as a threesome.
Albarn said: "There is a Blur record at the moment but it's very basic.
"The reason why it's so basic is we decided that if we're going to make another record it's just got to be the three of us and I've got to play guitar. And because I'm such a rudimentary guitarist it has to be really stupid and basic punk rock."
As the Beeb reports, Albarn went on to talk about a 'solo' album he is working on. He said: "I'm halfway through a record that I started in Nigeria last year.
"I suppose it will end up being my first solo record, although I hate the term 'solo record'."
10-08-05 - Site disappearance
Well. This site was gone for awhile. The server it was on kind of vanished. To this day, I still don't
know what happened to it. For all I know, the girl who owned it said "fucking freeloaders!" and deleted
us all.
I've spent the time since then searching for a new place to put it, collecting and gathering, and making
this new layout, complete with that rather tasty picture up there. Thank you for your patience. I hope
this never happens again.
In the meantime, until I find something better, I'm on Tripod. It's not ideal, and there are pop-up
boxes, but it's all I can do right now.
Please keep all links and bookmarks set to alex-james.cjb.net because this will move again.
Note: The news section is updated when I hear about things and when I get around to them, so don't yell at me if
something's old.
I am not Alex James, nor am I connected with him. Please don't send me fan mail for him. Thanks.
